Thecus 5200

This is the rolls royce Network Attached Storage server. It provides the widest range of connection options, and the most reliable redundant disk array system in the Thecus range.

Up to five SATAII drives in hot-swap trays means you can create a four-disk RAID-5 array with a fifth disk loaded into the unit as a "hot swap". The unit will take the current range of 1Tb drives. With five of these in you have a systm providing a four drive 3Tb RAID of accessable network storage, capable of withstanding the loss of any one of the four drives by swapping in the fifth "hot spare", and then still withstand the failure of another drive, without user intervention. When a replacement disk arrives, you just pull out the failed unit, without stopping the system, screw the new drive into the tray, and slide the tray back in. The system will automatically pick up the new drive and re-establish full redundancy.

You can add further storage to the unit by attaching an eSATA DAS.

You can expand the RAID on the fly. For example you can populate it now with four 500Gb disks. When you need more space, just swap one disk - without shutting down - for a new 750Gb or 1Tb drive. The system will rebuild. Once it's done this, swap the second drive... Once you've swapped all four drives, you can tell the system to expand teh RAID to fill the new space!

The 5200 can be backed up via the LAN to your normal backup devices, or to directly attached USB or eSATA storage, or vay Nsync to another NAS server.

The 5200 provides gigabit ethernet (with jumbo frame support) and also supports dual LAN connection with load balancing or fail-over, so if one of the etehrnet ports dies, the other contiues to provide service to the LAN.

Like all Thecus NAS servers, the N5200 is managed via a well laid out "web" control panel.
